The Flag of Gambia
The flag was adopted in 1965, upon Gambia's independence from Britain. It was designed by Pa Louis Thomasi. A horizontal tricolour consisting of a red, blue, and green stripes. The stripes themselves are separated by thin white lines. The red stands for the savanna and the sun, the blue represents the Gambia river from which the nation derives its name, and the green represents the land and the forests. The white represents peace.
The flag itself during Gambia's history has not been changed. The nation has seen various constitutions, multi-party democracy, and military coup. But the flag is seen as having no political ties, and has not been changed.
