The Commonwealth of The Bahamas

The Flag of The Bahamas

The Bahamas gained full autonomy from Britain in 1964, and finally gained full independence on July 10, 1973. The new Bahamian flag was adopted on the same day. It is a horizontal tricolour that is aquamarine, gold, and aquamarine. On the hoist side is a black equilateral triangle pointing along the line of the horizontal stripes.

The black is supposed to represent the vigour and force of the people, the triangle pointing represents the enterprise, determination, and unity of the Bahamian people to develop the resources of The Bahamas. The 2 aquamarine representing the seas, and the gold represents the land.
