The National Flag of El Salvador
El Salvador first gained its independence from Spain, and became part of the Federal Republic of Central America. A union between El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. The flag of this union of nations took its inspiration from the Argentinian flag.
Then, by 1840, the other nations formally separated from the union, and it finally was dissolved when El Salvador formally changed its name, back to El Salvador in 1841.
Finally, by 1865, El Salvador had a new flag, after using the old Federal flag. The new one brought in had been inspired by the flag of the United States. This one, however, had 9 stripes alternating between blue and white. It also features 14 white stars on a red field in the upper hoist canton.
Finally, in 1912, a new flag was brought in. This one took inspiration from the flag of Argentina, using a horizontal tricolour. This time, using a slightly darker shade of blue. El Salvador uses 3 flags. The State flag features the coat of arms in the centre.
There are 2 civil flags. The most simple flag features no adornments.
Whilst the second flag features the text "Dios Union Libertad." Which translates to "God, Union, and Liberty.
