Barbados

The Flag of Barbados

Barbados is an island nation in the Caribbean. The current flag was adopted on the 30th of November, 1966. The islands first independence day.

The flag itself is is of a tricolour design, consisting 2 blue stripes, and 1 yellow. On the central yellow stripe, is a black, broken trident.

One of the blue stripes represents the sky, the central yellow stands for the sand on the beaches, whilst the final blue stands for the sea round the island. The tridant is taken from the image of Britannia, an icon of Barbados' former colonial power. The trident is broken to signify Barbados' independence from Britain. Also, the three points stand for the three principles of democracy, government of, for, and by the people.
